Music shaped by poetry. Stories shaped by survival.
Leyla Mei Parker is an independent singer-songwriter blending contemporary songwriting with introspective poetry.
Her work explores emotional manipulation, inner awakening, freedom, identity, and the psychological tension between belonging and self-liberation.
Every lyric begins as a lived experience — every song as a quiet rebellion.
Before becoming melodies, her stories were poems.
Early Writing – The Roots of My Lyrics
The following piece, written in 2018, represents an early emotional blueprint of what would later become my songwriting voice.
It reflects a moment of psychological departure — the awareness of hidden hostility beneath apparent closeness, and the first conscious step toward inner freedom.
Everybody Seemed So Friendly © Leyla Mei Parker
Written August 30, 2018
everybody seemed so friendly,
the nearest ones were dangerously,
surrounded by snakes I was fighting,
whatever it takes, probably I tried to seem happy,
but the problems were too tricky,
my mind was thinking of freedom,
while others had evil thoughts for kingdom,
she wants me to hide my feelings,
close my mind and think like her devils,
wine was not ment to help,
suddenly inside me a yelp,
so it has to be like this,
saw me on the street I do not miss,
a pair of shoes, a coat and a friend of mine to dote,
like the speed of a season change I fled the cage,
life let me feel so unbelievably attracted,
as I met people who accepted,
ballasts I was taking with me,
sank like a stone in the sea,
reminding helps to be in reality,
do not forget my last possibility.
From Poem to Song
My music transforms emotional memory into sound.
Themes of confinement, emotional survival, and awakening continue to shape my songwriting today.
If you connect with this piece, you will recognize the same emotional DNA in my songs.
